My Story

Until my recent pivot to UX I've spent my entire career within financial services. Many times I am asked "Why the change?"

My family emigrated to the United States on 4th of July 1991 when I was 8 years old. I was afforded the opportunity to be the second person in my family to attend college. Upon graduating in 2004 I found it difficult to break into the financial industry especially having so little information on internships and how powerful networking is. I printed 100 copies of my resume, dressed in a suit and walked into every financial firm from Wall street to Midtown trying to obtain a meeting with someone in HR. The approach wasn't the best I admit but later that summer I joined an agency and obtained a temporary role at Bear Stearns. Since then I worked my way from back office Operations on through Middle Office support and eventually reached my goal of Front Office - Sales Trading in Foreign Exchange at Credit Suisse.

Every time I started on a new team and began training my passion was to roll up my sleeves and try to bring solutions to the issues the team was dealing with. I would look into how and why they completed their tasks and in what systems they performed them, looking for any redundancies or usability problems. My proudest moments stemmed from bringing an end to a problem or proposing an adopted solution. While I really liked the foreign exchange market, I found myself unsatisfied with the technology and the growth potential in that area.

My path has led to UX and I love that the teams I've worked with so far really value critical-thinking, problem-solving and creative solutions that I attempt to bring. It is my belief that this field is one that benefits from a lot of life experience and understanding people (users), soft skills I've really enhanced up until this point. I am looking forward to a bright future in User Experience Design and really hope to bring my expertise and a new perspective to every project.
